Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department
The first meeting of the Coudersport Ladies Auxiliary was held on Wednesday April 28th, 1937. Wednesday evening a number of ladies met at the fire department for the purpose of organizing a Ladies Auxiliary to the fire company. Chief Willis Potter appointed Mrs. Violet- Mitchell as chairman for the meeting and Mrs. Martha Potter secretary.
After a few remarks from the chairman and those present at the meeting the benefits and duties of the auxiliary were discussed. The meeting was opened for nominations and elections of offices.
As only one candidate was nominated for each office, the following officers were elected:
President Mrs. Violet-Mitchell
Vice President Martha Potter
Secretary Bertha Clinton
Treasurer Peggy Potter
Organist Mabel Angood
A committee was appointed to draw up the laws to govern our auxiliary and present them at the next meeting for approval.
Committee on by-laws were
Chairman Mrs. Onalee Benson
Dorthy Moshier
Hattie Brock
Faye Gordnier
Miss. Leila Rossman
A motion was made and approved than that charter memebers would pay .50 cents for entrance fee.
The regular meeting nights were voted to be the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
A committee on entertainment was appointed by the President for the next meeting, they were Daisy Cox and Olga Clark.
As only the wives of the active members of the fire company receivce notice of the auxiliary it was thought advisable to keep the charter open until the next meeting and send notices to the wives of honorary members giving them the chance to become charter members.
Several firemen were present and expressed their best wishes for the auxiliary success and gave the the auxiliary the use of the club room for the auxiliary meeting. They also gave them their cooperation in any way possible.
Each member was requested to bring a dish towel.
The meeting was adjourned to meet in May on the 4th at eight o' clock.
